         Professor Omolehin, Ajayi Raphael Adeniyi has emerged as the pioneer Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti. This followed the decision of the University Senate on Wednesday, November 8, 2015. Omolehin, a professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension, was unanimously adopted after his name was presented to the university Senate by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor I.U. Asuzu.
Until this new post he was the Director of Innovation and Research Centre, a position he has occupied since August 2014. In between, he has acted as Vice-Chancellor in the absence of the chief executive of the university.
             Born on May 3 1962, Professor Ajayi hails from Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria. A graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, he earned his PhD in Agricultural Economics from Justus – Liebig University, Giessen, Germany in 2005 and became a Professor of Agricultural Economics, at Ahmadu Bello University, (ABU), Zaria in October, 2011.
          Professor Ajayi’s memberships of Professional bodies include Agricultural Society of Nigeria, Agricultural Economics of Nigeria, Farm Management Association of Nigeria as well as the Agricultural Extension Society of Nigeria. As an accomplished scholar, his distinctions and awards include Third best Poster award of the Douche Tropentag Conference at Gottingen – Germany in 2003, best student with outstanding academic performance in Agricultural Economics option in A B U Zaria in 1989, and best student of the year 1982 at Offa Grammar School, Offa Kwara State.
            He has held several positions of responsibility and served as member of several committees both in FUOYE and at ABU. At the professional level, he has been involved in the Review of Academic and Professional Journals in Nigeria and abroad. In addition, the professor of Agricultural Economics has graduated fifteen PhD students, thirty five M.Sc. students and twelve Post-graduate students.
            In his letter of appointment dated November 25, 2015 and personally signed by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor I.U. Asuzu, the DVC shall be responsible to the              
                             Vice-Chancellor for the following duties and functions:
  1. Assist the Vice-Chancellor with the general administration of the University.
  2. To act in place of the Vice-Chancellor if absent for any reason, or unable to perform his functions as Vice-Chancellor.
  3. Take charge of the administrative and academic leadership of Ikole campus on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor.
  4. To perform such other functions as the Vice-Chancellor or the university Governing Council may from time to time, assign to him.
In congratulating the pioneer DVC on this added responsibility, the Vice-Chancellor charged him to render sincere inputs in ensuring the peace, harmony and progress of the budding University. By this appointment Professor Omolehin has automatically become a member of the University Management.
